Adams County is in the process of creating a new health department to go live Jan 1, 2023. As part of the new structure, Adams County intends to transition several Tri-County Health Department (TCHD) staff to Adams County. The county is committed to ensuring continuity of high-quality public health services as these services transition to Adams County.
In October 2021, the Adams County Board of Commissioners made the decision to end the partnership with TCHD and create a new health department focusing on the specific needs of the nearly 520,000 residents and businesses in Adams County.
“As our new health department takes shape, our primary goal is to provide continuity of services to our residents and businesses. Working with Tri-County to transition several employees will help us achieve that goal,” said Lynn Baca, Chair of the Adams County Board of Commissioners. “We’ll be able to offer some stability to Tri-County employees during this time of transition and rely on those who have years of experience in the public health sector to make the new Adams County Health Department a success.”
There are many legal and policy pieces to work through, however; the intention is to identify certain positions necessary for the creation of a new health department and to ensure a smooth transition between now and January. Adams County intends to assist TCHD employees with future employment opportunities at Adams County as much as feasible and as policies allow.
Adams County is in the process of identifying positions and creating a timeline to notify TCHD employees of any future options that may exist with Adams County. Adams County is working closely with TCHD leadership for this transition.
